A New Affordable Housing Prototype
ISO-SRO is a high quality, low-cost housing solution born by combining our experience with the economy of prefabricated shipping container architecture and award winning affordable housing.
Using re-purposed shipping containers addresses both the housing crises and sustainably addresses the current large build-up of single use containers in the world’s ports. It is ISO-SRO’s design goal to provide highly livable spaces, with an entire wall of windows, floor to ceiling built-in millwork, a ground floor of community facility and tenant amenity spaces.
The quality control and efficiency in the prefabrication process ensures long unit life-cycles and excellence in design to construction execution. Prefabrication also allows for shortened construction periods; unitization and mechanical connections allows for scalability and adaptability over time.
Scalability and flexibility allow ISO-SRO to adapt to a wide variety of site sizes and conditions. standard 20′ and 40′ containers can be prefabricated within our system and stacked to a variety of heights. This ensures ISO-SRO meets unit type and variety demands.
By prefabricating each Single Resident Occupancy unit, ISO-SRO is able to provide fully built-out living units complete with furniture, fixtures and equipment at roughly $250 USD/SqFt. The ISO-SRO model is based on offering affordable and subsidized rents through its entire project life.
To ensure maximum affordability ISO-SRO offers two standard unit types, one with private, accessible bathrooms and kitchens, and one with shared amenities.
The extreme economy of this construction method will allow a fully self-sustainable model with low-cost rents. Prefabrication also allows for shortened construction periods; unitization and mechanical connections allows for scalability and adaptability over time.
